I've been sharing my process for this particular piece. I began with white fabric that I painted with Setacolor Paints, followed by block printing.
I'd painted both broadcloth and cheesecloth at the same time by placing the cheesecloth on top of the broadcloth. I attached Mistyfuse to the cheesecloth, then cut it in jagged strips that I fused to the broadcloth.
Above is an image of the entire 3 x 4' piece. The screens are all petroglyph pictures I have taken in my travels. These are all from Painted Desert National Park in Arizona and Valley of Fire in Nevada.
I used a combination of Speedball Fabric Ink, Setacolor Opaque paint, and Jacquard Lumiere Fabric Paint to achieve the color variation and depth you see in this piece.
I originally thought this might be a single whole cloth piece. I am now thinking it might be better as several smaller pieces, perhaps with a contrasting background and embellishments.
I have been following your process and it has really turned out to be quite spectacular. I was wondering what you had in mind when you commented earlier that you had a special plan for this piece of fabric.
ReplyDeleteYou must be really pleased with the peice so far.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful work, Cynthia! Can you talk about the process you used to create the screens? Are they thermofax, or handmade? I love that you are actually using the photographic images... I haven't learned how to do that yet.
