Here are a few images showing the details of the quilting I did on the blue bear.
I had a really difficult time getting the free motion quilting done - my Janome 6500 has been going downhill the past couple of years.
I do not seem to be able to get the tension adjusted to my satisfaction.
Worse yet - the thread breaks about every 8 inches of stitching.
I had to use a thread that was not my first choice as far as the visual effects - but it was the only one I had that would stand up to the stress of free motion!After finishing the bear, I decided I would have to quilt the background with my walking foot, which goes much better.
I have also decided to begin searching for a new sewing machine that will be dedicated to free motion quilting.
I used Fairfield's new fusible batting made with bamboo fibers. It was nice not having to deal wiht pins!

Beautiful! Sorry to hear about the sewing machine trouble! We have a great guy in town who works miracles with sick machines...
I love fusible batting - but I haven't heard of the bamboo type yet, gotta give that a try! If you're looking at FMQ machines, definitely take a look at the Juki TL-98-Q. I bought this machine a year and a half ago and absolutely LOVE it. I wrote a posts about it here:
