This is my piece for an upcoming group show with WAV. Collaged paper from phone book pages, sales flyers, newspapers and magazines.
My dilemma - to paint or not to paint. I thought I might paint with a wash of fluid acrylic, which would be transparent, revealing the black print clearly. I fear color might have a negative impact on the stark message of the black and white.
However, I am somewhat bothered by the different shades of white......
Opinions welcome!
I like it as it is. I think the different whites add interest.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of something that will give it an "aged" look. Something like spray walnut inks. I have some by Tsueniko. there are different colours.
ReplyDeleteI used several of them in this piece, but just one would do. http://sandysnowden.blogspot.com/2009/02/equilarteral-language.html
I am sort of seeing it in a shellac sort of colour...like pattern tissue.
Maybe even pattern tissue would be the answer since it has to do with body issues. Depends if you think it has been done to death already.

When I coloured similar papers to what you have used, in a project I did last year, I lost the impact of the text.
ReplyDeleteI really like the dementional feel of the body, especially the shading around the "bodice" area. Instead of using color, you could apply a wash of white, gray or black to some areas to enhance the shading and blend some of the words so they aren't quite so distinct--more elusive (?) Try different ideas on a practice sheet of collage. Ginny
ReplyDeleteWhat Joyce said. It does remind me rather horribly, of the turkey I cooked for New Year. Not sure what that says about me but it is definitely 'interesting'.

I was thinking pattern tissue as well with a wash of burnt umber, white or gray. (When it comes to body type we're all sort of in that gray area, aren't we?) Extremely creative and thought provoking piece, Cynthia.
