To exit Cliff Palace, we followed a narrow walkway back up to the top of the mesa. However, this walkway was not in place 1000 years ago. Back then, the residents climbed the walls using the footholds and handholds you see here. People climbed these rocks carrying baskets filled with produce from their farms on the mesa.
