Big Hail

Sunday, May 18 a big hail storm hit Billings, Montana.  At our place, the hail was over 2" diameter.

The hail was driving out of the west and 7 of our west facing windows were broken.

We have waited over two weeks for the insurance adjuster to make an appearance.  After he left, I called a few local glass companies - they are five weeks out on their house calls.......

Our pick-up is totaled on account of it's age and the amount of damage that was done to the body by this huge hail.

The roof is a total loss on one of our commercial buildings along with the paint on the siding.  An AC unit is a total loss.

I lost many iris flowers, stalks and fans.

It has been a busy time since the storm.

  3. I've always wondered about this - see reports of big hail storms and the damage they do to vehicles, but never a mention of broken house windows let alone the other kinds of damage you had. I got caught in a bit of a hail storm driving down I-90 in western Montana a few years ago - nothing this big - but scared me to death and feared for my windshield. How scary was it being in your house with those things crashing down and into it?

Unbelievable that the wait to get estimates and replacements would take this long. And yet it appears you keep creating. Well, what else can you do?

  4. Wow, so sorry about the crazy storm and resulting damage. Do you have to board the windows while you wait for repair? Must have been scary too! Hope things get resolved quickly.

  5. Sorry to hear about the hail damage. Yikes! How awful and then to have to wait so long for repairs too. Hope the weather is warm enough now so you don't need to block the windows.

At least some of your iris survived the onslaught!
