Here it is. All finished - bound and the hanging sleeve on the back. I am happy with the way this came out and I am encouraged to continue working with this imagery. That's why I am optimistically calling it "Winter Walk #1".
I have mentioned before - one of my goals is to work in series......I am trying to figure out what that means, exactly. Last fall when I started working exclusively with block printing I felt like that was a series. However, when I had my work critiqued in the spring - the professional who did the critique said there was not enough continuity among the pieces (even though they were all done with block prints covering the surface and then quilted) to call it a "series". OK, so now I plan to take this same idea of a winter landscape on the open range in Montana - and put it in a different size / shape to see if it still resonates. Stay tuned!
This is lovely. I look forward to seeing more in the series.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I know this one was a struggle for you in some ways, but I think the effort was worth it! I like the theme of winter in Montana, and can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteBalderdash I say to whoever said this wasn't a series. A series is what you make it--you're exploring stamping on fabric, it's a series. And quite an interesting one at that.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great. I love the placement of the trees--the eye travels across the piece in a very pleasing way.
ReplyDeleteFor what its worth, I found it interesting that the critique was about what constitutes a series. The word itself is not confined to a singular definition (ie: continuity), and as an artist, what a constraint it would be to interpret one's work in such a limited way.
I hope you do not listen to the "professional".
