Montana Mudcloth in Vertical Mode

Is it any better in this orientation?

This piece is one that was originally printed with the idea of slicing between the printed rows and inserting contrasting strips.  I never intended it as a whole cloth piece. However, once finished, I fell in love with it as a whole cloth rectangle.  I don't care for it nearly so much as a square.  I have thought about cutting it into quarters and rotating them to make something a little more dynamic.  I think I could use some daring colors on the inserts to make it come alive, too.  I am reluctant to cut it up, but I can probably man up and do it.  .......

More choices coming up.

  1. Cynthia - this is beautiful. I'd hate to cut it up too. How about sending the design to Spoonflower and having another piece printed, then cutting that one up?

  2. I could easily hand print a similar one. I have all the printing blocks, as I hand carved them. I have plenty of hand dyed fabric laying around the studio. At this point - I am just not sure it warrants being quilted...I am still going through UFO's! Might find something more suited to the upcoming exhibition.

  3. I agree, don't cut it up. I really like the first geometric cloth you showed.

  4. Not keen on cutting this up but liked the other orientation better. I agree though that part of what makes it work is that it is a rectangle as opposed to a square.
