Featured Artist on Dinner at Eight

Today I am the featured artist on the Dinner at Eight blog.  They are sharing interviews with all the artists in this year's new exhibition:  "Reflections".  My piece is being kept under wraps until the opening.  (it has also been photographed for inclusion in Quilting Arts Magazine!)

Quilt Life Article

I am back at last, after nearly a month without a computer or access to any of my files, images, photo editing software, etc. Horray!  This magazine has been out for at least a month and I see it will be taken off the store shelves in two weeks.  I am really pleased with my current article in "Quilt Life" Magazine.

Rituals Artist Interview

"Rituals" is an invitational show.  The prospective artists are invited to submit a piece with certain dimensions, oriented to a specific theme within a timeline.  The curators then act as jury and determine which works will travel with the Quilts, Inc. shows.

This is my piece for this show:  "Sunset II".  I have always revered Montana sunsets.  Growing up in the Gallatin Valley, I would climb up on the bed to look out the west window to catch a glimpse of the winter sunset, and in the summer, I would sit in the grass and watch the sun go down.  I feel blessed to have a great sunset view from my current home in the Yellowstone Valley, as well.  We have stunning sunsets here and they always inspire me.

Yesterday, my artist interview for "Rituals" was published.
Click here to read my interview on the Dinner at Eight blog.

Tomorrow, I will blog about my process for creating "Sunset II".

On the Set for Quilting Arts Workshop

Here are a few more images from taping day at Quilting Arts Workshop.  This is not the Quilting Arts TV series where the artist is sharing the set with a host.  This is just me teaching and demonstrating my technique all by myself.  Above, we are deciding whether I should be standing or sitting for the taping.  They have to set up the camera for one or the other.
Here are the smaller pieces I brought in as details for the technique.  The floral piece in the upper right corner is the project for the demo.  Below, the next two photos show the wall hangings I brought for my background.  The cottonwood piece on the left and the seedpod piece on the far right have not yet been shown on the blog (I expect to get around to showing the process for them at some point).  Some of you may recognize the red and yellow piece in the center that was one of the first pieces I did in this style.

We ended up deciding I should be seated for the taping.   I really do not know when the DVD will be available for release.  I am sure they have to edit and prepare for production.  I'll keep you posted as I learn more!

Filming for Quilting Arts Workshop

Last month, I was invited to submit a proposal for a Quilting Arts Workshop DVD.   My proposal was accepted and I went to Interweave headquarters in Loveland, Colorado last week to tape the video demonstrating my technique for hand printed quilts.  Here are a few pictures of me on the set.
The finished DVD will be about 1 hour 10 minutes in length and I demonstrate all the steps involved in creating the block printed quilts.
The DVD includes painting the background fabric, carving the printing blocks, a discussion of fabric paints, and finishing techniques including the fused and quilted binding I have been using with this style.

Featured Artist - Dinner at Eight

Today I am the featured artist on the Dinner at Eight blog.

What an honor to be today's featured artist on the Dinner at Eight blog!

My piece, Spring Blossoms AKA Yearning for an End to Winter was juried into the invitational show The Space Between.

I blogged the progress of this piece from it's conception as a doodle to it's completion.

Yellowstone Art Museum Auction Opening

The Yellowstone Art Museum auction is the primary fundraiser. This is the 42nd annual auction. The final gala and live auction will take place on March 6.
Joe and I attended the opening reception. I was delighted to find my piece hanging prominently in the first room of the show!

We arrived early so I would be able to take a picture of my piece before it got too crowded.
The newspaper indicated that over 400 people attended the opening reception!

According to the newspaper, they received 600 entries and juried in 200 pieces.
These two pictures show some of the other works in the silent auction.

I am delighted and honored to have my work included in this event!

Yellowstone Quilt Fest

Yellowstone Quilt Fest in Cody, Wyoming is an annual event. My entries this year received two awards - a first place for Art - Pictorial - awarded to my fish piece called "Crystal Lake"

And a Second Place for "Graffiti City". Both of these quilts are constructed of fabrics that I painted using Setacolor fabric paints. Graffiti City is a whole cloth piece with Glue Gel Resist and block printing.

My compliments to the organizers of this fine event. The show was terrific and the vendors were wonderful!

I am a bit behind getting this posted - the event took place in September.

Quilting Arts Magazine

I had just begun thumbing through my Quilting Arts Magazine when Joe brought in the mail and there was a large envelope from Interweave Press. I was surprised to find it contained another copy of the current issue along with a letter thanking me for my contribution. Hmmm. . . . I wasn't aware of any contribution. I glanced at the table of contents and saw the 2007 Journal Quilts were featured, so I went to that article and sure enough, there was my piece on page 83! In case you don't have access to the magazine and would like to see my quilt - I featured it on my blog last fall. Here is the link to my 2007 Journal Quilt. This is the third time my work has been featured in this magazine. I feel quite honored.

Our satellite monitor died last Sunday and I've not had Internet access for 6 days! Yikes! I had no idea how much I rely on it for information and entertainment! I am sure glad to be back online as of this morning, thanks to the efforts of my dear husband, Joe.
