Mail Art Project #100

Today's quote:

"Ends are not bad things, they just mean that something else is about to begin.  And there are many things that don't really end, anyway, they just begin in a new way.

Mail Art Project Ninety Nine

"Buffalo Robe"
so named because this Thermofax screen print was created from a photo I took of a Buffalo Robe at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Great Falls, Montana.  The Buffalo Robe was covered in figures like this and was surely used for story telling.

The background fabric is hand painted and the screen print has been colored with paint markers.

This week's quote:

"Great numbers of the Indians pass our camp on their hunting excursions:
the day was clear and pleasant but the night was very cold
and there was white frost."
-Meriwether Lewis-

Mail Art Project Ninety Two

"Abstract II"

Hand painted cotton.  This fabric was painted by my small art quilt group - WAV.  We each had a color and a paintbrush and walked around the table adding to each area until it was almost all covered in paint.  When it was dry, we each took a piece of the fabric.  I used mine to create a series of postcards.

This week's quote:
"I have not failed.  I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
-Thomas Alva Edison-

Mail Art Project Week Ninety One

"Leonardo Meets Michelle"

The fabric is screen printed with a Thermofax screen created by my daughter, Michelle - while she was a student in the Commercial Photography department at Northwest Wyoming College.  Then, I screen printed over it with the famous drawing by Leonardo diVinci.

Today's quote:
"Reader, suppose you were an idiot.
And suppose you were a member of congress.
But I repeat myself."

Mail Art Project # 87

This week's mail art postcards are a gelatin print of leaves with rubbings from a Ginko leaf plate made with paintsticks.  Then, I stitched over painted Tyvek which had been cut into ginko leaf shapes.  I melted the Tyvek slightly by touching it with an iron (parchment paper between the iron and the Tyvek).  This was actually a small art quilt that I felt was unsuccessful, so I cut it to 4 x 6" size for postcards.

This week's quote:

"Today you are you!
That is truer than true!
There is no one alive
who is you-er tan you!"
-Dr. Seuss-

Mail Art Project - Week Eighty Three

"Chickadee #3"

I've used chickadee imagery a couple of times already in this postcard series.
This one is an unsuccessful art quilt.
A gelatin plate plant print, Angelina leaves and some sparkly tulle made this one really tacky art quilt. Slightly less tacky as postcards, I guess.

This week's quote:
"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer,
it sings because it has a song."
-Lou Holtz-

survives by bending with the wind."
