Red Rocks

This is a National Conservation area located on BLM land. It is located maybe 20 miles west of Las Vegas, Nevada. Instead of heading to the smoky casinos, we took a little drive.

I'm not sure how well you can see this plant (above). I loved the shape of it. No idea what it is.
Also loved the colors of the cacti. Not sure what makes them red like this. Sunburn? Cold temps? Drought?

How about the markings on these rocks we came across in the drainage? Caused by iron, but what a great pattern!

Hi Cynthia,
Those rock markings look like somebody came along with a pot of soy wax and batiked 'em!
Thanks for keeping us posted on your travels.
Have a good trip.
Thanks so much for sharing these photos. They bring back such good memories for me as I was born in Las Vegas and spent many happy hours, as a child, roaming these spots.
Thanks for the great pictures. My son and DIL spent a week in Las Vegas, and told me the only thing I would like there is Red Rock Canyon. I hope to get there some day.
Love the cacti, and the interesting tree and rocks! Don't blame you for going there instead of the casinos!
