Hand Dyed Quilt Backs

Yesterday, I showed a piece I've begun featuring primary colors.  It is large - around 70" square.

I realize because this piece is so large, I really need to hand dye a sheet for the backing.  I am going to dye two - as long as I have the dyes out.  Then, I will have one for the back of this piece and another to save for another project.
When I see how the one on the left has turned out - I wonder why I am bothering with the collage process!  I am thinking about creating something that will represent a nebula.  Looks like I nailed it with the dye. . . . I will save that piece for the future and will use the one on the right for the back of the current project.

I love the one on the left! Reminds me of one I started late last year: http://tiedyejudy.blogspot.com/2011/12/solar-eruption.html. I call it my 'Solar erruption'. Got a little bogged down with the stitching, but I'll get back to it one of these days! Meanwhile, can't wait to see what you do with yours!

The left hand piece is very evocative of a nebula. I'm currently trying to interpret the Andromeda galaxy in curved piecing for the International Quilt Challenge Blog but I'm only working to A3 scale. If it works out I may develop it into something larger for FOQ. I will be interested to see what you eventually do with this piece of fabric. (I am a CQer)
