Wedding Snapshots

A do it yourself wedding
The wedding came off yesterday without a hitch.
It was a busy time for me, because in order to save money, I did a lot of it.
I am most pleased and proud of the wedding cake that I made and embellished.
The middle layer is gluten free and diary free (many of our family have Celiac disease and other food intolerances - including me). The top and bottom layers are regular cake, but two kinds - red velvet and white. I created the flowers to go between the layers the day before and stored them in the refrigerator. About two hours before the wedding, Joe helped me put everything together. This was the first time I had ever done a cake this elaborate with tiers.

I did all of the flowers. Most of them came from my yard and my daughter's yard. I spent about $50 at a florist buying stems from their cooler (daisies, lilies and Japanese iris) and I grabbed a couple bunches of freesias at the supermarket. I cut all the greenery from the Chokecherry, Russian Olive, and Cottonwood trees on our property. My iris are really stunning this year and I was able to add some Salvia and Snow in Summer too.

Oh, and I did the alterations on Erin's dress.
My daughter, Michelle helped me with the reception. We served a blueberry punch, iced tea and coffee. Also, strawberries, mints, nuts and chocolate covered blueberries. It was a beautiful day and hopefully a great memory for Erin and John.
