Pinacate Biosphere Preserve in Sonora, Mexico

As long as I have been traveling to my sister's place in Mexico - I have wanted to visit this sister park to the USA's Organ Pipe Cactus National Park.  Pinacate Biosphere Preserve is just across the border in Mexico and the focus of this park is the huge volcanic expanse covering thousands of square miles.
Visiting is an all day event that involves driving for 70+ km on dirt roads through lava fields and craters.  Above, this cactus and petroglyph mark the entrance to the park.
Below, our first stop at an interpretive sign.  We were the only people for many miles......

This blooming shrub (below) was outside the visitor center where we paid our entry fee.
We stopped along the road - volcanic sand and rubble everywhere as far a we could see.  The road was all sand, but we did just fine in the Dodge Grand Caravan!
