Fossil Lake in the Beartooth Mountains

We were really happy to reach Fossil Lake on our second day hiking "The Beaten Path".  This lake lies at the top of the trail.  It is significant because there are two different drainages from this basin.  One goes to the East Rosebud, while the other goes to the Clark's Fork.  There is a big cairn that marks the point between the two drainages (I didn't take a picture of it, sadly).

Fossil Lake covers 164 acres with an undulating shoreline.  It is 10 miles from the Clarks Fork trailhead.  We were happy because we knew the trail would be mainly downhill from this point on.
More Fossil Lake pictures tomorrow.

What a beautiful spot, but what a narrow trail.
