Ancient White Park Cattle

On a recent drive into Tom Miner Basin north of Yellowstone Park, we passed the B-Bar Ranch, where Ancient White Park Cattle are raised.

I grew up on a ranch and have seen a lot of cattle, but this was my first encounter with this breed. I was charmed by their striking black noses, eyes and ears contrasting with the sleek white hide!
They were curious about us.

This herd is quite stout. I am not sure whether they are last year's calves or they are just a short legged breed.

Just wanted to chime in. Ran across your post on the White Parks randomly. I work on the BBar and those cattle you saw up in Tom Miner would be 2-3 year olds. Slower growers than most commercial breeds. Very curious, and extremely wary. They're easy calvers and great mothers if a bit ornery sometimes.

Thank you Mihail. I used to live down at the bottom of Tom Miner road. The log house nearest Carbela Bridge was built by myself and my ex-husband and I lived there from 1980 to 1988. My sister actually lived at the BBar years ago before Mary Ann bought it. She also lived in the stone house for a dozen years or so....I taught in Gardiner elementary school from 1979-1986. Living in Billings now these past 20 years.
